Swinging Haymakers
03:14
|
|||
Oh, I’m in love again
Oh, the heart never forgets
No
It’s late nights
Last-minute red eyes
Prix fixes that might cost more than my rent
You get what you pay for
And she’s worth the labor
More time with a stranger than all of my friends
I let my heart run wild
I’ve gotta go big upfront
And press my luck she’ll stay awhile
Then halfway down the aisle
I miss the adrenaline
That “fallin’ in”
I’m running out the chapel, screaming
“Oh, I’m in so much shit!”
It’s white lies
Jealous and uptight
Searching the room right before she comes in
And then it gets ugly
It’s tears over bubbly
Just tell me you love me
Then tell me again
I let my heart run wild
I’ve gotta go big upfront
And press my luck she’ll stay awhile
Then halfway down the aisle
I miss the adrenaline
That “fallin’ in”
I’m running out the chapel, screaming
“Oh, what have I done?”
We’re swinging haymakers
Going once
Going twice
No takers
Adrift with no anchor
My mind goes blank
My heart goes blanker
Somebody cut me off
I think I’ve been overserved
I think I’ve fallen in love
But really, what’s in a word
I really want to get off
But everything is a blur
I think I’ve fallen in love

New Brains
03:56
|
|||
It’s new brains
So come in
I wouldn’t bite
I’m vegetarian
The bad wolf
Well, he ain’t me
You see, I’ve re-aligned
I’ve been in therapy
Rest your little red coat here
And grab yourself a seat, my dear
Never mind the big, sharp teeth
They’re only for protecting me
We’re pretty cute together, wouldn’t you say?
And I barely can remember my younger days
Let bygones begone, they’re not worth the pain
And you never liked your grandma anyway
The same face
But new brains
I wouldn’t lie
I just got on the gospel train
Got a bounty on my head
And all the hunters want me dead
They just don’t get the new me
But you, you’re smart enough to see…
That we’re pretty cute together, wouldn’t you say?
And I barely can remember my younger days
Let bygones begone, they’re not worth the pain
And you never liked your grandma anyway,
But I did
I liked her a lot
I thought she was great
I threw her into the pot
And I had a day

Ollie, The Trashcan
02:38
|
|||
I tried to ollie the trashcan
I fell and nearly broke my hand
And you laughed all the way to the ER
And I’d do it again to see
You smiling as you looked at me
I’m such a fool for you
And there’s nothing I wouldn’t do
A full split in a three-piece suit
I ripped my pants in front of you
But you said I could really bust a move
And every time you told your friends
I’d see your face light up again
Yeah, I’m such a fool for you
But I’m broken and I’m bruised
And I’ll wear that makeup upon my face
To cover scars I’ve hid for days and days and days
Just in the chance you look this way ever again

Color'd Be Nice
03:24
|
|||
It's so boring here
All those years in church, I thought I'd be important here
But it's been the worst
Because what good's a mansion if everyone has one?
Streets are all gold and the angels are handsome
Moreso than me
Why would that be?
Bottom line:
I don't mind wearing white all the time when I'm 'round here
Though color'd be nice
And if the water turns into wine, I'm alright swearing off beer
But heaven's been such a drag
And maybe it's my fault for switching my life up at the end
Now every night the choir's song's stuck in my head...
It's been 80 years
And I don't understand why I don't see my lady here
I guess she didn't make it in
Now I'm stuck with my parents,
Most of the South, and all of these babies grossing me out
And I just cannot comprehend
Was this really the plan?
I visited Saint Peter with a list of all my grievances
And he got annoyed
He said I ain't got leverage given that one alternative
And he's got a point,
I've just gotta let it be

Stampede (Fair in War)
05:06
|
|||
Last train out of this terminal
So grease a few palms and we’re good to go
So let’s have a toast
And raise a glass to the afterglow
You can’t save all of the animals
The cattle can’t grasp what the farmer knows
So when it unfolds
You’d better shit or get off my pot of gold
Stampede away and then
A final sunrise upon the empire of men
Stampede away and then
Just straighten your tie
And button your cardigan
The stone-cold calculus of the road
The bittersweet taste in the antidote
The bottomless hole
Survivors guilt is so visceral
You can’t save all of the animals
But keep a few pets from the stable close
Because you never know
Who you’ll have to sic to do the unspeakable
So do you wait for the towers to fall
Or go throw your weight against the wall
The impatient will get all their flowers
Do you wait for the towers to fall
Or go throw your weight against the wall
The impatient will get all their flowers
And the meek will get nothing at all
